- Dominant cultural beliefs and values around sexuality are often in conflict with traditional Christian teachings; in Western culture this often involves an explicit rejection of Christian teaching
- There are significant divisions within the church around questions of human sexuality
- Developments in media and communications technology, fashion, art and social structures are creating a highly sexualised environment for young people to grow up in
- Sexual sins within the church have shaken confidence in the teachings of the church.
