I could have spoken to my superior to get advice on what to do and then we would have followed the correct process for mandatory reporting and notifying parents.

If a student at Turning Point had revealed that they had suicidal thoughts, or I saw evidence of self-harm because they were overwhelmed by their family situation, I would have firstly reported it to my principal and then I would have encouraged them to speak to one of the counsellors. I would also access the following information for myself

as well as referring the students to this site to understand what they are feeling and seek help.

I would check with my Ministry Supervisor first and then provided them with resources that they could use to access support. If they borrowed a book/DVD, I would advise them on the guideline for use.

Performance Criteria 3.3 Encourage cooperative approach to the use of resources

If this was an organisational resource, I would encourage them to use the resource and return it as soon as they have finished because there may be other people who require this resource. If the resource was a person, I would encourage them to make an appointment and make sure they arrive on time so as to not waste this person’s time.
